Traumatic events, relational wounds, and systemic oppression (historical and current) can become the central defining experiences that powerfully influence the quality of our live. Established early on, patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting designed to navigate an unfriendly, unsafe or oppressive world are solidified with repetitive use, and become harder to modify as time goes on. The physical patterns that are the legacy of trauma and relational wounds prevent clients from moving beyond the imprints of the past.
Most modes of therapy rely on the content and verbal narrative, but Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is not conversation or “talk therapy.” Instead of working with content, we work with the body and how experience is organized internally, which directly changes chronic patterns that fuel clients’ distress.
SP’s simple body-oriented interventions are effective in treating trauma because trauma first and foremost leave its debilitating legacy on the body. In this webinar you will learn somatic techniques to regulate the nervous systems and resolve trauma’s impact on the body. SP’s interventions also facilitate access to the strong emotions and limiting beliefs associated with relational wounds. You will learn how SP can shift the enduring imprints that attachment, relational strife and societal oppression leave on the movement and posture of the body, as well as emotions and beliefs.
Changing deep seated patterns of organization requires a special kind of relational mindfulness, not conversation, and not meditation. This presentation will teach you SP’s relational mindfulness skills to help your clients discover and change how they organize their experience, so that they can stop trying to resolve their past by talking about it over and over.
This seminar explores the impact of trauma, relational wounds, and systemic oppression (current and historical) and elucidates body-oriented interventions to increase resilience throughout life. The approach and techniques addressed in this seminar will show you how to draw upon the wisdom of the body to guide your clients through their journey and can be easily incorporated into whatever approach you use. You will learn how working with self-touch and movement can be used to support therapeutic growth and the integration of parts of the self. We will also introduce the philosophical/spiritual principles of SP that create the conditions in which growth is optimized, allowing clients to take their next step in their own evolution. SP will be illustrated by short experiential exercises and video excerpts of sessions with clients.
