Child and Family Specialist

The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families supports distressed children and their families through innovative therapeutic practice and research, training and promoting awareness of mental health issues. In April 2019, the Centre opened its new Centre of Excellence located in King’s Cross.

The Centre’s Schools Division has a substantial track record of delivering training and services into schools with national reach and reputation. The Centre has a long-standing and established relationship with Brent Council. The current service is going in to its third year of delivery and the team have warmly welcomed a significant expansion which has opened up a number of new opportunities within the service.

Brent – Wellbeing and Emotional Support Team

The Wellbeing and Emotional Support Team (WEST) is a service commissioned by Brent Council focusing on improving the wellbeing of children and young people aged 4 to 18 years (or up to 25 years with a Special Educational Need or Disability) in identified vulnerable groups including children and young people with learning disabilities, at risk of exclusion, looked after children and those who are at risk of multiple vulnerabilities such as child sexual exploitation, gang affiliation and domestic violence.

We are currently recruiting three Child and Family Specialists. This is an opportunity for a qualified Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist, Family Therapist or Child Psychotherapist to join a highly respected and rapidly growing team. The role will be suited to those individuals with skills and experience working with hard-to-engage populations who may have withdrawn from education and their local community. The aim is to offer consultation and/or deliver a wide range of brief evidence-based interventions for children and families accessible to all members of the Brent community jointly with allied professionals. There will be opportunities to develop school-based clinics offering direct intervention for young people and reflective practice spaces for staff. The three post-holders will also be involved in training to schools and multi-agency professionals. Opportunities to work across the Schools Division will also be encouraged.

The work will be a mixture of face-to-face work in community settings (predominantly schools) and home-based virtual appointments. Some attendance at meetings and supervisions may be required at the Brent Civic Centre (Engineers Way, Wembley HA9 0FJ) and at the Anna Freud Centre (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).

The Centre values diversity and aims to have a workforce that reflects this. We encourage applications from all sections of the community and would actively seek to increase the diversity of the Brent Wellbeing and Emotional Support Team to reflect the population we work with in Brent.
