Women’s Trauma Conference – Train With the Very Best Trauma Experts

Grow as a trauma therapist by learning direct from leading woman pioneers in trauma work, with PESI UK’s Women, Trauma and Mental Health Master Series Conference – taking place online 5-6 November 2020.

Trauma therapy with women is a tale of tremendous hurt and of concerted hope.

We know that women are more likely to be victims of recurrent assault and abuse from someone who’s close to them, such as their partner or a close family member. Following trauma, women are twice as likely to develop PTSD, tend to experience posttraumatic symptoms for longer, and to display more sensitivity to triggers.

But we also know that women, as a client group, are responsive to therapy, and have a good chance of finding long lasting recovery from trauma.

Trauma can trap women in feelings of anxiety, shame, anger and depression, and express itself in troubled sleep, disordered eating, difficulties with intimate relationships and suicidal feelings.

Yet trauma can also be a crucial point in a woman’s narrative of transformation – one that has the capacity to positively impact not just individuals, but sometimes also families, communities, even generations.

As therapists, we may feel inspired by this potential of trauma work to turn pain in to power.

We may also feel overwhelmed – in the face of our female clients’ distress, and the powerful transferential and countertransferential forces involved in trauma work – and wonder, “Am I doing all I can?”

Which is why, this November, PESI UK is bringing together some of the world’s foremost trauma experts – including Judith Herman, developer of the complex PTSD diagnosis; Pat Ogden, creator of the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy method; Janina Fisher, expert on shame and trauma; and Babette Rothschild, author of the bestselling The Body Remembers – to share their groundbreaking models, time-tested resources and unparalleled insights.

You’ll learn about advances in treating dissociation and ruptured internal attachments.

You’ll discover how the autonomic nervous system is impacted by trauma, and how the body can also be a valuable processing resource.

You’ll pick up resources for building resilience, embodied practices for promoting calm and connection, and self-care techniques for working with vicarious trauma.

And you’ll benefit from the latest thinking about race and collective trauma, the role of justice in recovery, and the key ingredients in post-traumatic growth.

We’ll also be bringing you two panel discussions, and an inspiring opening address from Julia Samuel, psychotherapist and bestselling author of Grief Works and This Too Shall Pass.

See the full line-up below, and book your place on the Women, Trauma and Mental Health Master Series Conference for this rare chance to learn with some of the founding mothers of trauma therapy – and help the women in your clinic to heal.
