Young People's Counsellor

Fixed Term Contract (July - October 2020)

We are looking for a counsellor to join us, initially on a fixed term basis to provide short term, remote, therapeutic counselling and emotional support as part of our specialist and person centred service.

Work as part of a new and innovative service for young people who have been affected by domestic abuse - either at home or in their teen relationships.

West Mercia Women's Aid are working with Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Advice and Support Service (GDASS) to provide countrywide advice and support to young people aged 13 - 19 years who have been affected by domestic abuse, or who are experiencing abuse in their teen relationships.

The role involves.......
Delivering 1:1 therapeutic counselling and emotional support to young people remotely (telephone or online support) using a short term model.
Conduction an initial assessment of need and risk of young people, involving their parent (where appropriate) who are referred into service.
Employing a range of tools, techniques and media in order to connect with young people and encourage them to express and communicate their emotions & experiences.
Maintaining clear and adequate client records

you will have.......
A minimum of 2 years' experience of counselling young people
A desire to make a difference for young people at a point of vulnerability in their lives
Experience of delivering counselling remotely
Good knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse issues
Sound knowledge and understanding of good practice in safeguarding
Experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with young people
